While some still view crystal healing as a pseudoscience, it has garnered much evidence demonstrating transformative effects in emotional and mental health fields, as well as spiritual wellness.
Crystal healing has always been a long-term interest of mine since I was young due to its alluring beauty but also its richness in culture. Anyone can buy plastic beads and string a bracelet together, but not many will invest in the stories and history behind them.
Healing through means of crystals can be traced back to early civilizations such as Ancient Mesopotamia and Ancient Egypt, civilizations in which people were highly connected to the natural world and receptive to its innate healing powers. For instance, in Egypt, scarabs are known for their ability to birth and transform under intense heat conditions. With that, Egyptians began to accessorize themselves with crystal scarabs made out of carnelian - symbolizing the passion and intensity of carnelian and the transformative power of scarabs.
Now a common phrase used in the modern day when referring to crystals is “my crystals vibrate”, which is not entirely wrong but needs more context. What should be expressed is that when crystals are made they are formed through heat and pressurization which then forms a unique and repetitive atomic structure - which is also electrically charged. Similar to these crystals that carry an electrical charge, human beings do as well making it easier for crystals to help “align”, “amplify” and “redirect” our energy. According to Dr. Janelle Kim, founder of JBK Wellness Labs and practitioner of TOM (Traditional Oriental Medicine) “Crystals have a similar wavelength to the human body, which means they vibrate at the same tone as humans and can enhance the body’s natural healing [process],” says Dr. Kim.
Thus, whether you subscribe to the spiritual beliefs of crystals, there are various ways to appreciate them from jewelry, home decor, and fashion.
